HIV/AIDS Peer educators
This course will enable learners to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS in the workplace, and its effects on a business and the society at large. The focus for PEER EDUCATORS, Managers and the workforce is knowledge, skills, values and attitudes in relation to the learner’s own context and experience of the pandemic.
Course content
• Understanding the effects of HIV/AIDS on the immune system.
• Ultural believes and myths
• Knowing how HIV/AIDS is transmitted
• Knowing what behaviour is safe and what behaviour caries the risk of HIV/AIDS transmission
• Stigmatisation (STIGMA)
• Understanding to help someone cope with realisation that s/he has HIV/AIDS and to ensure co-workers are safe from infection
• To prevent someone who does not have HIV/AIDS from becoming infected.
• Labour Law and its implications
• Confidentiality
• Knowing what guidelines and assistance are available to support workers with HIV/AIDS and recognise own role in creating a caring work environment
• Understanding the implications of HIV/AIDS pandemic for society, the economy and companies
• VCT (Voluntary Testing and Counselling)
• The importance of proper Counselling before, during and after •
